Meeting People in Saudi Arabia (hassle-free)

Expat

One of the hardest things to do in Saudi Arabia is to meet people. Being such a closed society, opportunities to meet others are almost always planned well in advance and chaotically orchestrated. The problem seems to be even harder for women living in Saudi Arabia because of the strict and limiting laws they face. There is hope thou, and meeting people can happen. All you need to do is pay and wait. By this I mean that most of these socializing events come with a price tag and they happen ever so often so you tend to have to wait till the next thing pops up.

Many readers have asked about expat organizations that specialize in bringing together expat communities in specific regions: InterNations, ExpatBlog etc. They are definitely a fantastic way to keep in touch and know what’s going on in your city. Read about my very first expat community experience (here)

InterNations Event Experience

Expat

Hello,
This past weekend I made my way down to Riyadh to visit friends and do fun things (shopping, dining etc)! I also attended my very first InterNations event with a friend. The event was held at Bonita Village Compound (visit)  which is located on the outskirts of the city. It was quite the distance from the city centre and the taxi ride out there was lengthy. The compound is a new development and is pretty much deserted. With something like only 3 families and 15 bachelors currently residing in the entire compound.

Bonita Village Compound is very pretty, nicely designed and has well kept grounds. It is fully equipped with a bowling alley, restaurant/cafe, mini market , CINEMA and pool. If you like to leisurely relax, then this is the place to be. The event cost 150sar/ticket; including access to all the features mentioned above. I also includes a dinner and evening dance party of sorts. It was held from 2pm to around 10pm or later.

KEEPING SANE IN SAUDI ARABIA

Expat

It has come to my attention that my blog has happily turned into an informative spot for many people looking to embark the journey to Saudi Arabia. May it be for personal or professional reasons so many lovely readers have contacted me with dozens of emails asking all things and everything about expat life in the Kingdom. For some I have been able to
respond but for the others I promise a response with time.

I thought that I would continue the expat informative posts because the last one was the driving force behind the many emails. I know my perspective is a bit biased and narrow as I am a moderately young (sarcasm) female expat working and living in Saudi. But nonetheless I hope it helps in any way it can.
This second post should appropriately be titled Keeping Cool and by no means referring to the temperature but rather one’s sanity. Here are what and how’s of how I have been able to keep sane in a world so different from where I am from. Enjoy!

Single Saudi Expat Female. Q & A

Expat
I’ve decided to compile a rather lengthy helpful tips list for single-expat women in the KSA. After a few years here I feel that I have gathered quite a reasonable perspective on life here as a single women. In essence I think these tips will benefit all expat women living in the KSA. The reason I geared this to single women is because after meeting so many female expats over the years, it was always clear that many of them had no clue about what the heck is really going on.
