When you have an adorable nephew that lives in New York then your only “forced” to visit. Of course force is a harsh word to use when talking about vacationing in the Big Apple. Anyhow, NYC was more than we could handle for our short stay but had us craving for a comeback.
The city has so much to offer that you need to visit repeatedly, or just move there to really grasp how much the city has to offer. We tried our best to get as much in as possible, really soaking up that “hipster” lifestyle. Waiting in lines for particularly colourful bagels, to ending up in Queens because of lack of direction I can honestly say that New York is not for the faint of heart.
I have never been to so many cafes in my life , each one offering their take on the classic cup of coffee. While the bagels smothered in cream cheese were warming our carb-loving hearts. I must say food stalls and pizzerias were a huge hit with the sisters and so were the amazing deli sandwiches. If you try anything in New York, you need to try a corner store Deli- sandwich. A culinary highlight has to be having soul food in Harlem, yup!
With the weather being a bit temperamental my joy for the touristy attractions dwindled quickly. But not without a last day visit to the MET museum, which was kind of epic. If you’re a fan of 30 Rock then you’ll understand my excitement when I found myself standing in front of the Rockefella Centre. As dramatic and emotional Sept 11, 2001 was the standing memorial is amazing. So beautiful, and understated it lies in the place of the fallen towers, a cascading waterfall, illuminated by the names of those who lost their lives there.
Shopping was a definite treat. Almost every shop I went into I was impressed the mass selection of stuff in the stores is like no other place. I’ve travelled a lot and shopped a lot but nothing compare to the massive volume of stores lining NYC streets. Your typical H&M, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Club Monaco and Zara are massive. The selection of merchandise I found much trendier than found in other outlets of the same store.
Enough said… considering my day of NYC are unlimited. I am what they call obssesive aunty I am assured that I will discover more with visits to come.
