The latest thing to happen to Jeddah Friday Nights has to be the opening of @bastaamarket1. Basta Market is an open air market that is made up of predominantly (90%) Instagram-based businesses vendors. So basically, selling and buying things via Instagram is a huge deal here in Saudi Arabia. Ranging from pretty bakery treats to custom lighting fixtures. I guess with Instagram being such a popular social media tool here in Saudi Arabia people have found a way to use it to grow their ideas to full operational businesses. The market was introduced to bring Instagram entrepreneurs together and give them the ability to meet customers in a more traditional way.
The market has several rows of vendors selling an assortment of things. I must say that 1/3 of the vendors are food vendors, which we enjoyed tremendously. Home cooked foods, delicious sweets and creative desserts were all for the taking. Have you ever heard of a oreo stuffed cupcake? Well, you’re in luck.
There were many vendors selling clothes and accessories, while home decor was a big theme throughout the night. Marilyn Monroe printed cushions and Audrey Hepburn dishes….
I loved the traditional things that were on sale, traditional printed shirts and night gowns. There was ready to make coffee mixes and spices to step up your kitchen skills.
All in all it is a great idea, a very pleasant outing and something nice to do while outside. I recommend this to everybody in Jeddah it is not to be missed.
Basta Market is open every friday from after Asr prayer til 11:30pm. It will be running up until the first Friday of April. (hopefully extended)
Just to mention that the vendors are not permanent so they may change from week to week, so you can go more than once!
