Just because I’m living in the Middle East doesn’t mean I can get good quality Middle Eastern food all the time. In fact it’s harder to come by these days, with so many commercial restaurant chains taking over the dining scene in Saudi Arabia. One place that seems to always get it right in my opinion is CUISINE HALAWANI. I’ve been several times in the past and on my last visit I realized I haven’t reviewed it on the blog yet. So here, it is.
It has a very relaxed atmosphere and the family dining section is particularly one of my favourites. The single-family seating is well designed and spacious, you don’t feel closed in. Even thou they do close it off with a wicker partition it is so roomy that it doesn’t bother you in the least.
Now, let’s get to the food. It is best known for its chicken plates offering both roasted chicken and grilled (charcoal) chicken options. They offer an extensive menu but majority are classic Middle Eastern dishes. I am a huge fan of their lentil soup and fattoush salad, it’s really good. The prices are reasonable and especially if you are a larger group it’s a great way to sample several dishes. The serving sizes are reasonably large so you definitely get a bang for your buck.
If you are a fella (can’t dine in family section), I’ve heard that their to-go service is excellent. They are one of the best places to get chicken shawaramas and most of their dishes come with a side of fries and rice. Yum!
