The latest thing to happen to Jeddah Friday Nights has to be the opening of @bastaamarket1. Basta Market is an open air market that is made up of predominantly (90%) Instagram-based businesses vendors. So basically, selling and buying things via Instagram is a huge deal here in Saudi Arabia. Ranging from pretty bakery treats to custom lighting fixtures. I guess with Instagram being such a popular social media tool here in Saudi Arabia people have found a way to use it to grow their ideas to full operational businesses. The market was introduced to bring Instagram entrepreneurs together and give them the ability to meet customers in a more traditional way. Read more

I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard people tell me that they are out of the loop, living under a rock, mindless and clueless. It’s a combination of endless sand dunes, extremely censored news agents mixed in with aimless television selections that have many expats literally sitting ducks. I know, I went a little overboard with the idioms.

I know the exact feeling of literally being oblivious to everything outside the bubble, even to the point of not really knowing what is going on in Saudi Arabia.
